    2017 SMO Science Fair Success

    On Wednesday, February 22, St. Monica’s had their annual Science Fair. Students from Gr. 4-8 participated in this great, fun, learning opportunity. At the Science Fair, students presented their hard work and projects to St. Monica’s alumni judges from St. Joe’s who then chose 15 outstanding projects to move on and represent St. Monica’s at the Simcoe County Regional Science and Technology Fair

    Easter Artists

    Easter is almost here! Mrs. Rumney's artistic class has entered an Easter drawing contest. Their task was to draw an Easter picture related to Christ's Resurrection on the first Easter morning. One prize will be awarded to the top entry in each of these categories: Grades 7-8, Grades 4-6,and Grades 1-3. The prize will be a $50 gift certificate for a day at the movies.     The intermediate Boys Basketball Team played very well throughout their season, showing significant improvement in working as a team, leading to their regionals tournament. The boys showed great sportsmanship and their love for the sport.

    The SMO hockey team is in full swing (like a slap shot). Games have been played, practices have been run, but there is still a tournament to come. Teams from all over Simcoe County will be there. The boys and girls on the team are pumped.

    On Tuesday, February 28th, 2017, four St. Monica’s students, Vanessa, Kieran, Rhylee, and Cassidy, had the opportunity to participate in the 2017 Cardboard Boat Races at the Innisfil YMCA.

    Intermediate Math Olympics

    On Thursday, March 9th, a team of four SMO students, Alex, Amy, Emmett, and Julie went to St. Joseph’s High School to compete in the 2017 Intermediate Math Olympics. The SMCDSB wide competition is a great way for students to challenge themselves by competing in fun, unique, math activities.

    On Tuesday, February 28th, SMO students gathered in the gym to celebrate Pancake Tuesday, hosted by Mrs. Rumney’s Grade 5 class. Everyone from Kindergarten to Grade 8 gathered to the gym to eat fluffy pancakes.
