Last week Emmett and Gavin, from Ms. Davidson's Class competed at the Canada Wide Science Fair in Regina, Saskatchewan. They were 2 of 7 students representing all of Simcoe County at the 7 day, national event. They presented their project titled "Free Throw Physics" which analyzed the science behind various basketball free-throw methods

On Wednesday, February 22, St. Monica’s had their annual Science Fair. Students from Gr. 4-8 participated in this great, fun, learning opportunity. At the Science Fair, students presented their hard work and projects to St. Monica’s alumni judges from St. Joe’s who then chose 15 outstanding projects to move on and represent St. Monica’s at the Simcoe County Regional Science and Technology Fair

Easter is almost here! Mrs. Rumney's artistic class has entered an Easter drawing contest. Their task was to draw an Easter picture related to Christ's Resurrection on the first Easter morning. One prize will be awarded to the top entry in each of these categories: Grades 7-8, Grades 4-6,and Grades 1-3. The prize will be a $50 gift certificate for a day at the movies. The intermediate Boys Basketball Team played very well throughout their season, showing significant improvement in working as a team, leading to their regionals tournament. The boys showed great sportsmanship and their love for the sport.

Our South Street Burger fundraiser, on Monday, March 27th, turned out to be an amazing night! To quote the owner, it was the "best school attendance yet to date". The results were:

The SMO hockey team is in full swing (like a slap shot). Games have been played, practices have been run, but there is still a tournament to come. Teams from all over Simcoe County will be there. The boys and girls on the team are pumped.

On Thursday, March 9th, a team of four SMO students, Alex, Amy, Emmett, and Julie went to St. Joseph’s High School to compete in the 2017 Intermediate Math Olympics. The SMCDSB wide competition is a great way for students to challenge themselves by competing in fun, unique, math activities.

On Tuesday, February 28th, 2017, four St. Monica’s students, Vanessa, Kieran, Rhylee, and Cassidy, had the opportunity to participate in the 2017 Cardboard Boat Races at the Innisfil YMCA.

Forest of Reading is back! With it’s return brings a new collection of books and an excited group of students. This group of amazing readers is organized by Mrs. Priest, our teacher Librarian who runs our school Library, in partnership with the Ontario Library Association.

The Intermediate Girls Volleyball Team had a extraordinarily successful season! The girls learned many new skills such as powerful overhand serves, controlled bumping and setting, and amazing spikes.

On Tuesday, February 28th, SMO students gathered in the gym to celebrate Pancake Tuesday, hosted by Mrs. Rumney’s Grade 5 class. Everyone from Kindergarten to Grade 8 gathered to the gym to eat fluffy pancakes.

Mrs. Rumney has started a new program called Intramurals! This is where junior classes can play sports in the gym, during lunch recess. Intramurals is a great program where junior students are encouraged to play sports such as: Hockey, Dance, Dodgeball, Yoga and Basketball.

It's been a great season for cross country skiing for our junior and intermediate students. Over the past few weeks, classes have all headed to Hardwood Hills for some fun on the trails.

On Thursday January 19, 2017, four classes from our school went to the Eastview arena to show off their skating skills.

A new year has begun and the SMO annual Handball Tournament is up and running again. New teams! New players! It all starts next week!

On Friday, December 16, all the SMO students and staff joined together to celebrate our second annual Christmas Dinner.

Mrs. Rumney's grade 5 class will be hosting a Christmas Garage Sale on Tuesday December 6th. This will be our 5th annual event. We are looking for items for the sale from the community.

This years Gifts That Give Fair is coming up! On both Saturday, November 19th (10am to 3pm) and Sunday, November 20th (9am to 1pm) St.Mary’s Church will be open to those who are interested in purchasing Christmas gifts in support of various organizations.

There is something special going on in Mrs. Power Hann's Grade 1 class. For the second straight year they are taking part in the “Roots of Empathy” program.

Running All the Way to Counties! On Wednesday, October 12th, 45 SMO students raced at Sunnydale Park in the annual Cross Country Running Competition.

The leaves are falling, the water is colder and the students are running to help fight against cancer. At St. Monica’s instead of the “Terry Fox Run” we have the “Coins for Connor”

Mrs. Lancaster's Grade 6/7 class celebrated the Day of the Dead on Friday, October 28 by painting their faces.

Classes had a great time painting pumpkins during Literacy Week to look like their favourite storybook and novel characters.

“Book”aneers Invade SMO Library! Geronimo Stilton, everyone’s favourite bookland mouse was sighted strolling down the hallways of St. Monica’s School on September 28th and 29th. There was a good reason for the giant rodent’s presence though. It was the 20th annual St. Monica’s Scholastic Book Fair.

Literacy Week is almost here! Starting on Monday, October 24th, Literacy Week hopes to encourage classes to participate in the reading fun! This years’ Literacy Week will have many fun and amazing events

P.A.L.S is back at our school! “Playground Activity Leaders in Schools,” also known as P.A.L.S, is provided by the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit to encourage kids to live a healthier and more athletic life. P.A.L.S inspires students to be more active and teaches younger children social skills and how to work as a team.

SMO’s Flag Football Team is once again ripping flags and catching passes. The Saints kicked off their season on Thursday, October 13.

Thirteen SMO students are heading off to the 10th annual WE Day at the Air Canada Centre on Wednesday, October 19th.
