Roots of Empathy

There is something special going on in Mrs. Power Hann's Grade 1 class. For the second straight year they are taking part in the
“Roots of Empathy” program. “Roots of Empathy” is a program that attempts to teach students to love and care for others and to respect everyone, especially young children or babies. In fact, the “Roots of Empathy” program has been found to lower bullying rates in the schools it takes place in. Once a month, baby Milania (who is around three months old) and her mother, will come come into the classroom along with an educator from the program, Ms. Ruth Banks, to teach students about caring, loving and respecting babies. This is an exciting learning opportunity for these grade ones. Milania’s first visit was Thursday, November 3rd.  The SMO students showed a lot of respect and had a very good time.  They look forward to seeing her again soon.
